The defcon system:
in the defcon system the area surrounding the vehicle is looked at as a whole. the road ahead is examined for complexity and roughness. the elaped time, time remaining, elapsed distance, and distance remaining for each waypoint, and the entire race are examined to give an urgency rating. the system then makes a judgement about how much speed is safe, and decides which mode of navigation is apropriate.
